Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Remember the film adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat starring Mike Myers? Actor Amy Hill does all too well.

The 2004 comedy, directed by former costume designer Bo Welch, saw Myers' giant titular feline cause trouble for children Sally (Dakota Fanning) and Conrad (Spencer Breslin).

Hill appeared in the film as their babysitter Mrs. Kwan and spends the entire running time snoozing while the cat runs amok around the house; it turns out she may as well have been.

When asked which projects she didn't like working on in a candid interview with The AV Club, Hill immediately cited The Cat in the Hat describing her experience working with Austin Powers actor Myers as "nightmarish."

Hill said:

"[I]f I saw him today, I don’t think he’d even remember who I was. He is like a little hermit. He would come in and, I guess, be in hair and makeup. We would wait. I’d be there at the crack of dawn, waiting. We would all be waiting for Mike Myers to come. And the director [Bo Welch] was really lovely, but it was his first time directing, and he deferred to Mike so much. Mike would do a take, and then he’d go over and look at the monitors, and then he’d talk to the director and then we’d do another take. It was just a horrible, nightmarish experience. I don’t think he got to know anybody. He’d just be with his people and walk away. People would come and then he’d stand there. There was a guy who held his chocolates in a little Tupperware. Whenever he needed chocolate, he’d come running over and give him a chocolate. That’s what divas are like, I guess. Or people who need therapy.

It would be slightly unnerving if Myers didn't remember Hill considering there's a scene where he uses her as a log flume.

The Cat in the Hat co-stars Kelly Preston and Alec Baldwin as well Will & Grace actor Sean Hayes. A categorical flop upon release, the film has since garnered something of a cult fanbase among families.

Hill's other credits include Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore comedy 50 First Dates, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
