From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Amanda Bynes is ready for a comeback.

The actor, who shot to stardom at age 13 thanks to Nickelodeon's The Amanda Show, running from 1999-2002, proving she had some of the most formidable comedic chops of the late '90s, went on to star in the likes of Big Fat Liar and She's the Man. Her last onscreen role was 2010's Easy A, before she announced an indefinite hiatus from acting, withdrawing from public life and studying at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.

In a statement to Page Six, Bynes' lawyer stated: “Amanda is looking forward to ringing in the new year with her close friends this year. In 2018, she looks forward to completing fashion school and dipping her toe back into acting. She has had several offers but is waiting for the right one to come along for a comeback."

Earlier this year, Bynes sat down for her first interview in four years, opening up about her mental health and revealing she is three years sober, after a series of heavily publicised legal issues, including two hit and run charges and two DUI arrests. She was hospitalised in 2013 for mental health issues and was placed under a conservatorship controlled by her parents, regaining control of her finances this year.

Speaking with Diana Madison of Hollyscoop, Bynes said that she missed acting and hinted at her desire to return to the industry. "I do miss acting, and I have something surprising to tell you: I'm going to start acting again," she revealed. "I want to do TV. Maybe a few guest spots on some shows that I'm a fan of and maybe another TV show where I'm the star of it, in the future. That's what I hope."
