The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park has become a focus point for tributes to late actor Alan Rickman this week, who gave one of the franchise’s most captivating performances as Professor Severus Snape.
Fans raised their wands in the air yesterday, and flowers are being left outside Snape’s classroom door.
One was particularly poignant: a single Lily.
Snape’s love for Harry’s mother Lily was deep and powerful, and though unrequited ended up being of key importance to the narrative of the entire Harry Potter series.
The fan meet-up at the park was arranged by Diversely Geek, which wrote on Facebook: “This world and his fandom has been left a legacy of kindness, humor, wit, joy, self-confidence, unconditional acceptance and pure positivity.
“Let’s aspire to be as gentle as this giant and leave happiness and laughter as our legacies.”
Yesterday, a letter Rickman wrote in 2011 recirculated in which he says goodbye to the character of Snape and details his fondness for the series.
