From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Based on the bestselling novel by Emma Donoghue, the emotionally-charged film promises an “unparalleled celebration of the bond between parent and child”.
Nominated for three Golden Globes (Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Actress for Brie Larson), the story follows the life of five-year-old Jack and his mother, Ma.
Ma has created a world in the tiny, squalid, windowless ‘Room’ where they have both been held captive for Jack’s entire life. Jack (Jacob Tremblay) has never seen the outside world, but Ma is determined to give him the chance to discover it and begins plotting their escape.
Before putting her risky plan for freedom into action, Ma dedicates herself to caring for Jack. She plays games with him, tells him stories and in one poignant scene, makes him a birthday cake despite not having any candles.
“But you said a birthday cake for real! That means candles on fire!” says a disappointed Jack, leaving Ma with the unimaginably difficult task of explaining that she has to ask only for “things they really need”.
Larson was nominated for the Bafta Rising Star award earlier this week, along with Dakota Johnson, John Boyega, Taron Egerton and Bel Powley, and is expected to earn an Academy Award nod for her performance.
Room arrives in UK cinemas next Friday, 15 January.
