A Quiet Place exclusive: Go behind-the-scenes on this year's horror hit

It was the horror phenomenon that defied expectations.

When the cinematic landscape is fixated with the spectacle, with sensory overload, it’s something of a wonder to see A Quiet Place – a film which thrives on silence – make such a significant dent at the box office.

Thanks partially to a cavalcade of rave reviews, the film massively overperformed during its theatrical run, raking in $332.3 million worldwide.

A new featurette now goes behind the scenes on the project ahead of its home entertainment release, examining how director John Krasinski learned to embrace such a unique format.

Featuring the onscreen double act of real-life couple Krasinski and Emily Blunt, the film follows a small family of survivors months down the line after an invasion, possibly extraterrestrial in nature, of creatures who hunt through sound. You make a noise, you die.

Speaking to The Independent, Krasinski revealed that he took inspiration from some of his favourite directors, examining how they personally dealt with extended periods without dialogue.

“Who I really revisited a ton was There Will be Blood, by Paul Thomas Anderson, and the Coen Brothers, with No Country for Old Men,” he said. “There’s a lot of westerns I watched. This to me, feels a lot like a western, and westerns have long amounts of silence. There’s a little bit of The Searchers in there.”

A Quiet Place is out now on Digital Download and arrives on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD 13 August.
