A Quiet Place Part II - Trailer

John Krasinski has confirmed that A Quiet Place: Part II is slated for release this summer.

The writer-director, who also starred in the first instalment, updated fans on the highly anticipated sequel in a Twitter post shared today (5 March).

“They always say good things come to those who wait. Well… I think we’ve waited long enough,” he wrote. “MEMORIAL DAY”.

The announcement will be welcome news for fans who had previously expected the film to arrive at cinemas on 17 September.

According to Digital Spy, the sequel’s release has been brought forward to fill a gap left by Fast & Furious 9 – which has now been pushed back until 25 June.

The sequel was originally scheduled to debut on 20 March last year, however, and was one of many films to have their release dates delayed due to the pandemic.

Released in 2016, the first A Quiet Place followed the story of a family attempting to survive in a dystopian world where vicious monsters are hyper-sensitive to sound.

The original film was a word-of-mouth hit, earning $340m (£249) globally from a $17m (£12.4m) budget.

The second instalment is set to follow on from the events of the first film, as well as explain how the monsters came to be.

Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy is set to star in the sequel opposite Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds, who will reprise their roles.

Krasinki – who found fame as Jim in the American remake of The Office – has not ruled out the possibility of a third instalment in the franchise.

Last year, the 41-year-old told Digital Spy that during the making of the sequel, he had “started to write down notes in case I could prepare myself for a third one”.

A Quiet Place: Part II is set to be released in US cinemas on 28 May. A UK theatrical release date is yet to be announced.
