A Quiet Place II has been handed a new release date, becoming the latest 2021 film to be delayed because of coronavirus.

The sequel to John Krasinski’s post-apocalyptic thriller starring Emily Blunt has now been postponed for the third time, moving to 17 September. It was originally scheduled for release in March last year.

The original film was a word-of-mouth hit, earning $340m (£249) globally from a $17m (£12.4m) budget.

Paramount, the distributor for A Quiet Place II, has previously sold some of its postponed titles to streaming services, with Coming 2 America (the Eddie Murphy sequel) and Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicacgo 7 going to Netflix and Amazon.

However, Variety reports that the studio remains confident about A Quiet Place II and will aim to release it in cinemas this year.

The rescheduling comes a day after James Bond film No Time to Die was postponed yet again, now to October.

On social media, fans have been joking about how old they will be when the highly anticipated movie – Daniel Craig’s final outing as the spy – is finally released.
