6 Balloons has been written by Marja-Lewis Ryan, who is currently working on the Channing Tatum Splash reboot, and will star Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and James Franco’s on-the-up brother Dave, who recently took a key role in Netflix original series Easy.
According to Deadline, ‘the drama unfolds on July 4, as Katie (Jacobson) discovers her brother Seth (Franco) has relapsed on heroin while his 2-year old daughter is in his care.’
Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle) and Tim Matheson (The West Wing) will co-star, with Tatum among the project’s producers.
Jacobson broke out with Comedy Central’s Broad City and is also executive producer of FX sitcom Meaty.
She and Franco are also lending their voices to Warner Bros’ The Lego Ninjago Movie.
