The cast for the latest live-action Disney remake has been announced, and it includes an adorable leading pup.

The feature will be a revival of the 1955 classic Lady and the Tramp, and it will star two real dogs. However, it is the casting of the male hero that has people fawning.

Tramp will be played by a rescue dog from New Mexico named Monte, according to People.

Last year, Monte was rescued from a kill-shelter by Halo Animal Rescue. The two-year-old mixed-breed was then adopted by Mark Forbes, one of the film's animal trainers.

The loveable Tramp will be voiced by American actor Justin Theroux.

His love interest, Lady, will be played by a cocker spaniel called Rosie, and voiced by Tessa Thompson.

On Twitter, the canine cast has already been praised for being "good" dogs.

"He's perfect," one person wrote.

Another said: "Meet Monte. Isn't he cute?! I love everything about this."

The human cast also includes A Star is Born actor Sam Elliott as bloodhound Trusty and Extras star Ashley Jensen as Jock.

The character of Peg, originally played by iconic singer Peggy Lee, will be voiced by Janelle Monae.
