Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The first trailer for Water for Elephants has been released online, starring Robert Pattinson (' The Twilight Saga') with Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon ( Walk the Line) and Christoph Waltz ( Inglorious Basterds) in a period romantic drama based on Sara Gruen's bestselling novel.
The footage shows Pattinson as the young man, caretaking the animals of the Big Top, and falling in love with the beautiful circus performer Marlena, played by Witherspoon, who is married to the show's cruel animal trainer, portrayed by Waltz.
The story follows a veterinary student who drops out of school to run off with a traveling circus after his parents are killed. At 90, he looks back at this evocative chapter in his life, set during the Great Depression, the bond he developed with Rosie, a special elephant, and refers to a disaster that occurs.
Directed by Francis Lawrence (I am Legend), Water for Elephants hits US theaters and Germany on April 15, followed by the UK and other countries April 22.
