Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. On September 27, the film studio released the first peek at True Grit, the Coen brothers' remake of the 1969 classic western starring John Wayne. Jeff Bridges replaces Wayne as the US Marshal who helps a young woman track down her father's murderer.
The teaser trailer shows the 14-year-old girl hire the tough guy, Rooster Cogburn, to join the hunt and bring Tom Chaney, played by Josh Brolin, to justice.
This version, by directors Joel and Ethan Coen ( Burn After Reading, A Serious Man), features direct references to the original film and imagery from cinematographer Roger Deakins ( Revolutionary Road, The Reader, Doubt and No Country For Old Men).
The film debuts newcomer Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross, the girl who hires the tough man of "true grit" to catch the bad guy before a Texas Ranger, portrayed by Matt Damon.
The film releases in the US December 25 and rolls out internationally in January 2011.
