This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.
The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

The second trailer for the action thriller Abduction starring Twilight star Taylor Lautner was released August 11, marking his first film outside the vampire trilogy and his first lead role.
Lautner plays a teenager who witnesses the murder of his parents and narrowly escapes, only to discover that he was kidnapped as a child when he finds his picture posted on a missing-persons website.
The high-gear footage shows the killers in pursuit, as Lautner fights off attacks while trying to learn the truth about his past.
Abduction costars Lily Collins (one of the upcoming Snow Whites), Alfred Molina ( The Sorcerer's Apprentice) and Sigourney Weaver ( Avatar).
Abduction opens in a dozen territories on September 23 including North America and Russia, followed by the UK and France September 28 and other markets in October.
