From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A new trailer for 50/50, starring the film's co-producer Seth Rogen ( Green Hornet) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt ( Inception), was released on August 11.

This dramedy, based on screenwriter Will Reiser's personal battle with cancer, shows a 27-year-old's struggle to beat the disease with the emotional roller-coaster, twists and turns experienced.

Humor lightens this story of survival and friendship, originally titled "I'm With Cancer," with Rogen's character crassly suggesting his friend use sympathy to his advantage with women.

Directed by Jonathan Levine ( The Wackness), the film costars Anna Kendrick ( Up in the Air), Bryce Dallas Howard ( The Help) and Anjelica Huston ( The Darjeeling Limited).

50/50 opens on September 30 in North America and France, followed by other markets from October to November, and the UK in January 2012.
