The first official trailer for the much-anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was released on December 13 with a look at the latest in the fantasy adventure series starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

This fourth installment of the hit franchise features footage of action-packed fun with mermaids, zombies, a swashbuckling Penelope Cruz, Blackbeard -"the pirate all pirates fear" - and an appearance by Keith Richards as the Captain's father.

Based on Tim Powers' pirate novel On Stranger Tides, the story follows Sparrow in pursuit of the elusive fountain of youth, which he discovers Blackbeard and his daughter are also seeking. There are battles at sea, intrigue on the ground and romance in the air.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is directed by Rob Marshall ( Chicago, Nine) and costars Ian McShane ( The Sorcerer's Apprentice) and the return of Geoffrey Rush ( The King's Speech).

The film hits North American on May 20, 2011.
