From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

"The Jaws" of summer 2010, the title Piranha 3D says it all, like Snakes on a Plane. This horror thriller is loosely based on Joe Dante's 1976 movie. Directed by Alexandre Aja ( The Hills Have Eyes).

The story takes place at Lake Victoria where an underwater earthquake has unleashed an army of prehistoric man-eating piranhas on the unsuspecting tourist town where thousands are enjoying vacation and spring break. Suddenly they're being devoured while swimming.

The sheriff, played by Elisabeth Shue ( Leaving Las Vegas, Adventure), must protect the town and destroy the man-eating creatures. The 3D effects can only make the monster fishes' razor-tooth jaws all the more terrifying.

The cast also includes Ving Rhames ( Pulp Fiction), Richard Dreyfuss, and Christopher Lloyd.

The film releases in the US on August 27 and the UK on August 20.
