Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The second trailer for the romantic thriller The Tourist, starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, has been released, including footage showing more of the storyline.
Depp plays an American tourist visiting Europe to mend a broken heart, who encounters an enigmatic woman, played by Jolie, who deliberately crosses his path.
The trailer reveals the seduction of Depp's character Frank across scenes in Paris and Venice. It leads to an intrigue as he becomes a hunted man in a case of mistaken identity, dangerously used as a decoy. After Depp leaps out of a hotel to escape, he's seen reporting the incident to authorities in an amusing scene among the suspense.
Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who won the foreign language film Oscar for The Lives of Others, co-wrote the screenplay. The Tourist co-stars Paul Bettany ( Legion) and Timothy Dalton ( Toy Story 3).
The Tourist opens in North America on December 10, followed by France, Belgium, Italy and Germany the next weekend, then Australia and Singapore at the end of December. It rolls out in other countries through January and in Japan in March 2011.
