From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The third trailer for sci-fi action thriller Battle: Los Angeles was released January 11, expanding on the initial teasers that set up the story of UFO sightings around the world.

The alien invasion story stars Aaron Eckhart ( Rabbit Hole) as the head of a Marine platoon, Michelle Rodriguez ( Avatar) as a sergeant, and rapper Ne-Yo.

The news warnings of meteors heading to Earth alert the public, quickly resulting in mass evacuations as it becomes clear the onslaught is not space debris but alien spacecraft.

Panic takes over as the attack mounts and it becomes apparent that the military is outnumbered by the invading malevolent force wiping out Los Angeles and its inhabitants. Then the Transformer-like behemoth emerges. "We are being colonized," says a voice on the news report.

The previously released teaser trailer sets up the of UFO sightings, stretching from Buenos Aires to Seoul. As the "meteors" turn from a mystery to a horror, Earth's cities are under attack in a war like no other. Los Angeles is the last stand.

Similar to films like Independence Day, it's far from the upcoming film Paul, about a lost extraterrestrial with a sense of humor.

Battle: Los Angeles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman, who will direct the Clash of the Titans sequel. The film releases March 11.
