Your support helps us to tell the story

In my reporting on women's reproductive rights, I've witnessed the critical role that independent journalism plays in protecting freedoms and informing the public.

Your support allows us to keep these vital issues in the spotlight. Without your help, we wouldn't be able to fight for truth and justice.

Every contribution ensures that we can continue to report on the stories that impact lives

THE 20th Flanders International Film Festival in Ghent begins on 13 October. To celebrate, the Independent, in conjunction with the Festival and Air UK, offers a weekend there for two. The winners will be flown in by Air UK on its London, Stansted to Brussels route ('taking only one hour') on the morning of Saturday 16 October, and will return on the evening of Sunday 17 October.

They will have overnight accommodation and breakfast at the Holiday Inn in Ghent and receive a pair of passes that admit them to all screenings: the films playing that weekend include Mike Leigh's Naked, Stephen Frears's The Snapper, Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet, John Sayles's Passion Fish, Danny Cannon's Young Americans, new work by Alain Tanner, Atom Egoyan and Margarethe von Trotta, plus the acclaimed Taiwanese film The Puppetmaster.

This year's festival also features a section devoted to Mexican cinema from the Thirties to the Nineties, and a retrospective of restored classics from the Piper-Heidseck Collection which that weekend includes Bertolucci's Novecento, Bunuel's Los Olvidados and Fassbinder's The Marriage of Maria Braun. The prize also includes a catalogue and an invitation to a champagne reception in the VIP room.

To enter, answer this question: what is the French name for Ghent? Entries, on a postcard please by 6 Oct, to Ghent Competition, Listings, The Independent, 40 City Road, London EC1Y 2DB.
