Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Eschewing migraine-inducing set-pieces for that brand of concentrated eerieness which has made the television series a cult hit, the film promises to elaborate on themes and story-lines introduced in the show, while being accessible enough to be viewed by X-heads and newcomers alike. David Duchovny is Mulder, Gillian Anderson is Scully. Metroland, an adaptation of Julian Barnes's first novel, directed by Philip Saville and starring Emily Watson and Christian Bale, finally gets a release.
28 August: Robert Redford directs and stars in The Horse Whisperer, a film of Nicholas Evans' best-selling novel about a man who applies his healing gifts to a young girl traumatised by a riding accident. Also: The Spanish Prisoner, David Mamet's enigmatic thriller, stars Steve Martin. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a tough British gangland thriller with the unique pairing of Vinnie Jones and Sting.
Also this year: Steven Spielberg's Second World War epic Saving Private Ryan is released here next month. And watch out for Love is the Devil, with Derek Jacobi as the visceral artist, Francis Bacon.
