Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Republica's Saffron, after recording their latest single, gives her style tips

I LOVE Conscious Earthwear. It is really well made: beautiful fleece jackets, trousers with skirts attached - all a bit sci-fi, but great fun.

My favourite item of the moment is a big red parka-style coat from them, with fake fur trim on the cuffs and hood. I shop at Plum in Soho or Selfridges for their stuff.

I'm not really a "big designer" person and I like to mix things up, say an old T-shirt with something by Versace. Versace is the only big designer I like. I've just got a Versace leather jacket, which is very classic and understated.

Dr Martens are my favourite shoes just now. I've about five pairs with "buzz" soles, which are really springy, and great for jumping around on stage.

I'm a ridiculous shoes person, and DMs, DC trainers and "brothel creepers" are my kind of shoes. Never high heels.

I also like suits, mod-style in dark colours or pin stripes, like those in Quadrophenia.

Adams on the King's Road is great for them. I only wear boys' suits, though, never jackets and skirts.

One of my worst mistakes was performing in a little tartan kilt; I just thought, "what am I doing?"

Skirts make me feel really disempowered, and I'll only wear them over trousers.

Shopping is a bit like a supermarket sweep for me, rushing around grabbing anything. If there's time when touring, I really like Glasgow and Manchester for great little designer and second-hand shops.

You find things you wouldn't in London.

Being a bit of a magpie, I've kept everything from when I was a teenager.

I'm still the same size, so once in a while I'll come across something from years ago and I'll still be able to wear it.
