Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

"It's hard to believe it's taken so long to put Pacino and De Niro in a film together, but it was worth doing. It's a very solid film, and everything's in place: acting, sense of style, storyline, direction. It's quite heavy going, but so much talent has gone into it you can't fail to be impressed."

Sarah North, 36, works in a bookshop

"It was good, but it tries to do too much; it could have done with being shorter and more concentrated. Still, I came to see it for De Niro and Pacino, as I expect most people will, and they're excellent. They've got good material to work with and almost act each other off the screen."

Graham McCutcheon, 42, security guard

"De Niro and Pacino are both good, but they're only doing what they've done before: we've seen Pacino play a cop in several films, and De Niro be psychotic lots of times. It's well done, but it's not very original, and nothing in it surprises you. It's just cops and robbers in the big city."

Phil Harding, 30, sign-writer

"I didn't think I was going to like it - it looked too much of a boys' film to me - but it had plenty to say and is much more intelligent than this kind of thing normally is. It's a very moral film, and really gets inside the heads of its characters. Pacino and De Niro are both terrific."
