Safe to say the Eurovision fanbase down under was more than a little ecstatic

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Guy Sebastian wowed the crowds with his energetic performance of "Tonight Again" in Vienna during the first half of the annual competition and within seconds, social media was flooded with Aussie reactions to their big moment.
Should Guy triumph in Vienna, Australia will be allowed to choose which Eurovision-participating country hosts the 2016 contest, which would be pretty exciting.
Guy was one of the bookies' favourites to win ahead of tonight's show, but UK commentator Graham Norton isn't convinced he has what it takes to emerge victorious.
"This was tipped to do very very well but, in the context of the other performances, I’m not sure if that’s a winner," the famously cutting and hard to please Norton said.
Australia has joined Eurovision for one night only (unless they win) as part of the 60th anniversary 'Building Bridges' theme. As you can see from the tweets above, Eurovision has a strong fanbase in Australia - they've finally been allowed to join the party.
