DRINK: WHAT'S ON THE WINE LIST
This is a pretty good list. Chosen with minimal reliance on big international brands, it has particular strength in the New World and plenty of choice for under pounds 20 - though Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1985 at Ipounds 300 (pounds 250) is probably the best bargain on the list!
Bonterra Chardonnay 1996, Ipounds 18 (pounds 15)
One of California's organic stars, Bonterra does not make bad wines. This sound, basic Chardonnay is an excellent wine for all sorts of food
Wildekrans Pinotage 1997, Ipounds 22 (pounds 18)
Some people don't greatly like the clunky fruit which is the hallmark of Pinotage but, from a good producer like Wildekrans, it complements beautifully almost any red meat
Esk Valley Black Label Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 1997/1998, Ipounds 22 (pounds 18)
From one of my favourite New Zealand producers. Black label is their basic wine, but from either vintage it should be just fine
