Mark Morris, the American choreographer, has a knack of casting himself in unexpected roles. Having taken on the female lead in Purcell's 'Dido & Aeneas', he is now a cherub in his own 'A Spell'. His troupe is accompanied by world-class singers - Christopher Robson, Amanda Roocroft, Felicity Palmer, John Mark Ainsley and Thomas Allen - singing Brahms's 'New Love Song Waltzes' and songs by the Renaissance composer John Wilson. After the fire at the Playhouse, the Morris company has repaired to the Meadowbank Sports Centre, where they are used to physiques like his. But the effect is the same as last year: a triumph.
