Your support helps us to tell the story

This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Help us keep bring these critical stories to light. Your support makes all the difference.

WE HAVE the latest batch of CDs on the Sony Broadway label to give away: The Sondheim Songbook, The Comden and Green Songbook, Two by Two, Irene, Raisin, Ballroom, Here's Love, Cole Porter's Aladdin, Do I Hear a Waltz?, It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman, Bajour, The Apple Tree, The Girl Who Came to Supper and West Side Story.

To enter, write a musical outline, not exceeding 700 words, complete with song cues. You must use existing song titles and they must fit the plot action. Example: Quasimodo rescues Esmeralda from the mob and sings 'Would you like to swing on a star?' or 'The bells are ringing for me and my gal'. The most preposterous idea wins.

Send your entry to: Musical], Arts, The Independent, 40 City Rd, London, EC1Y 2DB. Closing date 12 February.
