Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In a statement, the comedian said: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all my upcoming work projects. This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and any outstanding work commitments.
"My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I'm sure you'll understand my family must always come first.
"I've always endeavoured to protect my family's privacy from the media. I hope that the media and public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again I'm very sorry."
The Bolton stand-up announced Peter Kay's Live Arena Tour earlier this year, marking his first comedy tour in eight years. Tickets sold out almost immediately leading to extra dates being added.
Starting April 2018 in Birmingham, the tour was scheduled to take Kay across the UK with shows in Glasgow, Manchester, London, Leeds, Nottingham, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Liverpool.
