From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Nash posted a photo of the wedding ceremony, showing the beaming, newly married couple, on social media on Monday.
Referring to herself by her given name, Carole Denise, the Claws star captioned the photo “Mrs Carol Denise Betts”, suggesting that she intends to take her wife’s last name. She also added the hashtag #LoveWins.
Betts shared the same image on her Instagram account, with the caption: “I got a whole wife.”
Nash also posted a picture of herself with her wife on her Instagram story, along with the hashtag #PlotTwist.
Betts and Nash weren’t officially known to be a couple prior to the wedding announcement, though they have posted affectionately about each other on social media in the past.
Nash was previously married to Don Nash, with whom she has three children, then to Jay Tucker. The two announced their split in late 2019.
Many have congratulated the pair on their union. Among them is Ava DuVernay, the creator and director of When They See Us, in which Nash played in 2019, earning an Emmy nomination as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.
“I love you, friend,” DuVernay tweeted in response to Nash’s announcement. ”It was an honour to witness your wedding to Jess. May you both have more happiness than your hearts can hold.”
Mindy Kaling wrote on Instagram: “You look GORGEOUS! Congratulations!! So much love to you both!” (Nash had a recurring role in The Mindy Project, the TV series created by Kaling in which she also played the lead role.)
