Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Fresh from the flour and icing-splattered marquee of The Great British Bake Off, presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc have landed themselves a nomination for Best Female TV Comics at this year’s British Comedy Awards.

Perkins and Giedroyc will face comedienne Miranda Hart in the same category, who is up for the prize following her appearance on Room 101 in which she chose to send her breasts into oblivion.

Sarah Millican and Nina Conti are also contenders for the award, due to be announced live on Channel 4 from an awards ceremony hosted by Jonathan Ross on 12 December.

King or Queen of British Comedy, the only award decided by fans, sees Graham Norton, Sarah Millican, Jack Whitehall, David Mitchell, Lee Mack and Alan Carr battling for the crown.

Other leading nominees include The Last Leg and its host Adam Hills, NHS sitcom Getting On and children’s show Horrible Histories.
