CLUBS: CLUB OF THE WEEK
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.KINKY SEX @ patsy's
The Isle of Wight is only 40 minutes away from the mainland by ferry. It's not about to challenge that other famous island, Ibiza, as the main clubbing destination in Europe this summer but there is plenty of nocturnal fun to be had if you know where to look.
Kinky Sex is the Saturday night at Patsy's that crams in more than 400 clubbers every week for six hours of hard-working revelry. The beach at Ryde resembles those at many other small seaside resorts - and everyone knows they are here to have fun.
The town is a magnet for the Island's bright young things and at weekends it is full of youngsters testing their curfews. Those who make it into Kinky Sex party as if their parents were coming to whisk them away any minute.
I didn't witness any kinky sex; just a good old-fashioned party full of unpretentious, energetic youngsters. The music here is uplifting house with a strong garage flavour. If you prefer alternative beats, then you can hear some guitar-based indie tunes in the backroom.
Saturdays, St Thomas's Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight (01983 506645) 10pm- 2am pounds 3
THE BEST OF THE REST
FUNK @ sound republic
If you haven't had a chance to check out Leicester Square's latest superclub, then Funk offers a great opportunity to redress the balance. As the name suggests the beats range from hip-hop to R&B; anything with a thick slice of soul. R&B has been making a comeback over the last year. Arrive early and dress to impress the vigilant fashion police on the door before immersing in the constantly heaving dancefloor. If you like phat beats, you'll be hard pushed to find a better Friday gig.
Fridays, 10 Wardour Street, London W1 (0171-287 1010) pounds 10 before 11.30pm/pounds 12 after 10pm-4.30am
DEVOTION @ holy city zoo
Devotion is taking substantial steps in the right direction, providing a haven for a mature dressy crowd every Saturday night. In addition to providing a good crack every weekend, Devotion is where Club@vision presenter Janine was discovered. This might explain why this gig appears on the show so regularly, but if you check it out for yourself you're unlikely to be disappointed. Residents Huey, Marc Cohen and Martin Glynn keep the dancefloor fluid with housey rhythms.
Saturdays, Holy City Zoo, 126 Grosvenor Street, Manchester (0161-273 2758) pounds 12 10pm-4am
