Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Philip Pullman's book The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ is the latest title to get the "enhanced app" treatment, according to a March 29 announcement by publisher Canongate and developer Enhanced Editions. The application for iPhone includes the full text of the book, an audio version read by the author, and exclusive video interviews.
English writer Philip Pullman is best known for his internationally bestselling trilogy The Dark Materials, which inspired a blockbuster film and has been translated into 39 languages. This newest title, a retelling of the life of Jesus, is out in hardcover on March 29 in the UK and May 20 in North America.
Pullman says of the work: "The story I tell comes out of the tension within the dual nature of Jesus Christ, but what I do with it is my responsibility alone. Parts of it read like a novel, parts like history, and parts like a fairy tale; I wanted it to be like that because it is, among other things, a story about how stories become stories."
The app, priced at 13.99 euros or £9.99, features a synchronized text/audio feature that allows readers to switch between the two versions at any point; the video content includes clips of Pullman discussing the book.
The Good Man Jesus and the Soundrel Christ joins a host of titles recently released in "enhanced app" editions, including David Baldacci's Deliver Us From Evil and Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall.
