Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sure, fans can celebrate their love of Harry Potter on any given night of the year, but Thursday, 7 February calls for something special.
It’s the night Bloomsbury are holding their annual Harry Potter Book Night, launching a host of literary events across the world, all centered on this year’s theme: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Each event will be held using a special kit sent out by the publisher, filled with magical activities and ideas connected to all things Hogwarts.
Unfortunately, registration for the kits has now closed; Bloomsbury, however, has provided a useful map of all the events globally taking place, from the UK to Malaysia. Events are being held in a vast variety of venues: from bookshops, libraries, to universities.
The site also features an archive of past activities from previous years; packed with games, activities, and facts about the book series.
Alongside Harry Potter Book Night, Bloomsbury is also holding a national competition; challenging children to create the best-decorated party, with the chance to win copies of The Hogwarts Library box set.
Harry Potter Book Night takes place 7 February.
