From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Bridget Jones is set to make a return. And judging by the new title of Helen Fielding's book our thirtysomething singleton still loves the boys. But not enough to put one on the cover.

The jacket design for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has been voted for by over 117,000 fans on Facebook.

It has been 14 years since the last Bridget Jones book was released, and now we find an older Bridget who is still keeping a diary while immersing in texting and experimenting with social media as she navigates the perils of internet dating.

Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy, Bridget’s perennial suitors played by Hugh Grant and Colin Firth in the movies, will be a “presence” in the new books, Fielding has confirmed.

Speaking of the large period of time between the last Bridget Jones novel she published, Fielding, 54, said: “I sort of lost my voice with Bridget for a long time after the unexpected success when it first came out. It was very easy to write and be honest, then I got all self-conscious.”

She told Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour in December: “I found last Spring I had new stuff I wanted to say. Things that didn’t exist when I last wrote, like emails and texting. The way life is lived through Twitter. And a whole new idea for a phase of her life that I can’t jinx by describing it.”

Fielding revived Bridget for a series of columns in The Independent seven years ago. The story concluded with her having a baby boy by Daniel Cleaver, and inspired a third film with Zellweger which is due to be shot this year.

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy will be published on 10 October 2013.
