From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

John Grisham's forthcoming legal thriller, The Confession, is being packaged in a special limited edition in time for holiday gift-giving, announced The Bookseller on September 13. Due out in December, nearly two months after the novel is first published, the gift edition will be signed and leather-bound and is priced at $250.

The Confession, Grisham's 22nd novel, is the follow-up to 2009's The Associate and is said to be "classic Grisham" in the vein of his first novel, 1989's A Time to Kill. The new novel tells the story of Travis Boyette, a, man guilty of murder but never convicted, and Donté Drumm, a local football star found guilty of the crime. Nine years later, Drumm is four days away from execution and Boyette, suffering from an inoperable tumor, decides to confess but faces the challenge of convincing lawyers, judges, and politicians of Drumm's innocence.

The holiday-timed edition will be leather-bound, signed, and numbered, with printed endpapers, gold stamping, a slipcase, and a ribbon marker. Along with the gift edition, Random House is planning to reissue half of Grisham's catalog alongside the release of The Confession, then to publish the other half alongside the paperback release of The Confession in summer 2011.

John Grisham is the author of 22 novels (including The Firm, The Client, and The Rainmarker), a non-fiction title ( The Innocent Man), a collection of short stories ( Ford County), and an ongoing series for children (Theodore Boone). His books have sold well over 250 million copies worldwide, have been adapted into numerous feature films, and are translated into 29 languages.

The Confession - Limited Edition is due out in hardcover on October 26 in the US and Canada, October 28 in the UK, and November 1 in Australia. The holiday edition is due out internationally on December 14. Both versions can be pre-ordered from Random House and online retailers.
