From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Good Morning America reported on Wednesday that Gorman has joined the pregame schedule. GMA host Robin Roberts teased “a very special addition to the pregame festivities” during the morning’s broadcast. The NFL has since confirmed the news in a release.
The league announced that “the recitation of the poem will air nationally on CBS and be featured in-stadium”. Gorman’s poem will pay tribute to three honorees selected by the NFL: a teacher, a nurse, and a Marine Corps veteran.
“These heroes are symbolic of the thousands of health-care professionals, educators, and veterans throughout our country who continue to care for, heal and support those in need during this pandemic,” the NFL said in a statement.
Gorman earned abundant praise for her reading of her poem “The Hill We Climb” during Biden’s inauguration at the US Capitol on 20 January.
The poet – the youngest to read at a presidential inauguration in the US – climbed to the top of Amazon’s best sellers list after the inauguration broadcast. She also left Anderson Cooper “transfixed” during an interview on CNN.
Super Bowl LV, the 55th Super Bowl, will take place on 7 February in Tampa, Florida. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will play against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Weeknd will perform during the Halftime Show, following up on Shakira and Jennifer Lopez’s joint performance last year.
