Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The German-born artist delved into the worlds of fashion, design and theatre throughout a 60-year career based primarily in Paris and New York.
This September, Horst: Photographer of Style is set to explore the photographer’s collaborations and relationships with the likes of Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli, Marlene Dietrich and Salvador Dali.
Some 250 photographs will be displayed, alongside film footage, magazines and haute couture garments. More than 90 vogue covers by Horst will be exhibited, as will some previously unpublished vintage prints.
Stunning travel photographs from Israel, Iran, Syria, Italy and Morocco will be among the lesser-known elements of Horst's work revealed by the exhibition. His 1950s nude studies and explorations of natural forms will also feature.
"Horst was one of the greatest photographers of fashion and society," said Martin Roth, director of the V&A. "This exhibition will shine a light on all aspects of his long and distinguished career.
"Horst's legacy and influence, which has been seen in work by artists, designers and performers including Herb Ritts, Robert Mapplethorpe, Bruce Weber and Madonna, continues today."
Horst: Photographer of Style runs from 6 September 2014 - 4 January 2015 at the V&A. See the website for more information.
