Artist Milo Moire’s ‘Naked Selfie’ performance in the Trocadero in front of the Eiffel Tower was shut down on Sunday when police arrested her on the grounds that it is an offence for a person to display their genitals in public.
The artist was told to get dressed before she was taken to a police station, read her rights, fingerprinted photographed, according to her manager Peter Palm. She then spent the night in a police cell, Le Matin reports.
It is not the first time Moire has performed this piece in public. In February this year she took her ‘Naked Selfie’ work to Art Basel (pictured above), setting up a tripod camera and stripping down to nothing but a pair of pink running shoes before inviting people to take selfies with her, i-D reports.
Last year she attended the Art Cologne fair with her piece 'PloppEgg painting’, in which she performed naked, “giving birth” to abstract paintings by pushing eggs filled with in and acrylics out of her vagina.
According to Le Matin, Moire is expected to appear before a judge today. The newspaper reports that under French criminal law, the exhibition of genitals in a public place is punishable by up to a year in prison and a €15,000 fine.
