Yes, it's Valentine's Day this week, we're all aware of it. Gift-buying remains a near-impossible task of walking the line between cynical and saccharine, so thank goodness for Rob Ryan who always wears his heart on his paper-cut-out sleeve. His special A4-sized Valentine's greeting card, signed by the man himself and inscribed with a poem, will melt the stoniest of hearts. £25, etsy.com
Room with a view
New at Tate Britain, Looking at the View sets out to flip ideas about landscape art on their head, juxtaposing romantic vistas by old masters like Turner with challenging modern works by the likes of Tracey Emin and Tacita Dean. Free, 12 February to 2 June
Time and space
If God wears a watch, it probably looks a bit like this. Part of Accurist's Greenwich collection, made in association with the Royal Observatory, the grandly named 'Celestial' not only gives the time, but also keeps you up to date with the current movements of 1,056 stars. To ask why on Earth you'd need to know is to miss the point entirely. £275, accurist.co.uk
For folk's sake
We're hard-pressed for decent festivals this time of year so the arrival of the Cheltenham Folk Festival this weekend is cause for celebration. It's all gloriously eccentric, with 'indoor camping' in the Town Hall for hard-core folkies. The line-up includes a rare performance from folk legend Nic Jones. Sat day tickets £46, tomorrow £39, tickets for individual events available, cheltenhamtownhall.org.uk

The OCD chopping board: for the chef who stakes their reputation on the width and consistency of their carrots julienne. Available from the Science Museum gift shop, the board contains measurements for medium, small, julienne and fine julienne slicing and even has a protractor for creating perfect right-angle triangle sandwiches. £18, sciencemuseumshop.co.uk
Marble marvel
Standing out from the current avalanche of spring/summer collections, this silk jersey from Bill+Mar is a thing of beauty. The marble patterning is a new motif for the label, which was rather sweetly named after the designer's nan and grandad. £110, billandmarshop.co.uk
