Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Music

Sometimes I really hunker down in my old records. But a friend just bought me the new Matthew E White CD, called Big Inner.

Films

The film I've enjoyed most recently was The Intouchables, which was such a touching script and so beautifully acted. Rust and Bone actually inspired me to do a cover of Bruce Springsteen's “State Trooper” because there's a brilliant remix of it in the film.

Books

I really enjoyed The Naked Ape by Desmond Morris. It was published in 1967 and is often a very amusing zoological perspective on human beings. The chapter on sex is hilarious.

Television

I'm just completely addicted to Game of Thrones. I'm so obsessed that my new video is me trying to be in Game of Thrones. I will watch David Attenborough box sets for the rest of my life.

Comedy

I'm actually discovering The Mighty Boosh – it's just so brilliant.

Visual Arts

There was a really good Mariko Mori exhibition at the Royal Academy. There was this amazing pulsating pod that I found absolutely beautiful.

KT Tunstall performs at the Big Feastival, Oxfordshire (thebigfeastival.com) tomorrow. Her new single, “Invisible Empire”, is out now
