Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

As part of our Christmas charity auction, bidders can get their hands on a personal styling session with Victoria Beckham, a signed guitar from the Brit and Grammy award-nominated Craig David’s own private collection, and the chance to give one child the ultimate Christmas morning experience with a Harrods Toy Hamper worth £3,000 – including a Siro panda, a giant Steiff White Bengal Tiger, and a limited edition Harrods bear.

Other lots include a guided art tour followed by a private three-course lunch for 10 at Christie’s historic headquarters in St James’s, London. Travel lots include the chance to snap up a luxury stay in Thailand with Asia’s first single-use-plastic-free hotel group and a post-Christmas Zen yoga and pilates detox package in Somerset.

Proceeds from the auction will go to our AIDSfree appeal, which in conjunction with the Elton John AIDS Foundation aims to get all of those with HIV on treatment, and eventually create an Aids-free future. It will support projects in London, Nairobi, Atlanta, Kiev, Delhi and Maputo.

Medicines can now enable those living with HIV to have full and fulfilling lives, and also ensure they cannot pass on the virus.

Elton John launches The Independent's AIDSfree campaign

As singer Craig David said: “The AIDSfree campaign is all about joining together to help those who need it, across the world. I hope by donating one of my guitars I can help raise even more money for such a worthwhile cause.

“There are two days left to get involved, so get bidding.”

Through UK Aid Match the UK government will double public UK donations up to £2m. The auction will close at 10pm on Thursday, 13 December
