Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Independent has a chunky digital presence, what with record growth online and in mobile, and an ever-increasing array of multimedia platforms and solutions.
independent.co.uk
Our main site, independent.co.uk, is one of the most popular newspaper websites in Britain. 2010 was a vintage year for metric-smashing, with unique users growing from an average of 9.5 million per month to nearly 12.5 million. Page views, meanwhile, have grown by nigh-on 25 per cent – from 46 million per month in 2010 to just shy of 60 million by the end of the year. These numbers are only getting bigger, and we crested 13 million uniques for the first time at the beginning of the year - reaching as many as 15 million in May.
This remarkable growth means that the website has a much greater reach than either of the print versions – including a substantial international audience.
The website publishes all the stories that appear in the daily newspaper, alongside plenty of additional content. Breaking news isconstantly updated throughout the day, while blogs, videos and competitions are also ticking over. The editor's choice column highlights some of the best articles to be found across the site.
An extensive range of exciting online commercial opportunities are available to clients, such as audio and video podcasts, dedicated microsites, iframes and competitions.
iPad app
The Independent really got with the times in early 2011 with the launch of its first iPad app. Based on the award-winning i newspaper, the app has recently been relaunched, and its smoother than ever. It's free to download, and you get one month's free trial, giving you access to everything you'd get in the print edition, alongside exclusive videos, galleries and hyperlinks. It's available from an app store near you.
Marketing-wise, we can offer...
Smartphone apps
The latest addition to the Independent stable, our free smartphone app is available on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry. Designed to make the most of the strengths of each device, the app can download an entire newspaper’s worth of quality news and views in under a minute – which can then be consumed at the user’s leisure on- or off-line.
The app is already making waves on each of its platforms, averaging a cool 4.5 stars out of five in its customer reviews, while we anticipate traffic to go through the roof once we see the penetration we’re expecting. Mobile sponsorships are available, as well as various other solutions.
