Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The outage is the second problem in as many days with Microsoft's online servers.
Xbox One consoles rely on their internet connection to work, meaning that they can become entirely useless when there are problems with the online service.
If a console is marked as a users "home" console, then it will still be able to play some games offline. Even in those cases, the vast number of services that require a user to login to Xbox Live will be broken.
When consoles are not marked as being the home console, they are not able to work offline at all.
The official Xbox support account tweeted to say the company was aware of the issues and was working to fix them.
"We're aware that some users are unable to sign in currently & our teams are looking into it now," it wrote. "We'll update when we have more info to share. Thanks for all the reports!"
Xbox also shares its server status on an official page on the Microsoft website, where it included a message about the ongoing issues.
It noted that the problems were with both Xbox consoles as well as Xbox on other devices, which allows people to access Live services through PCs and phones.
"Our engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue causing some members to have problems signing in to Xbox Live," it wrote. Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience."
It had shared a similar message almost exactly 24 hours before, when it was hit by another major outage.
"Things are looking better with signing in now, so feel free to give it another try!" it wrote after that problem was resolved. "Thank you for sharing all of your reports. As always, we're here & listening."
