Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Want to find interesting microbloggers who tweet about specific subjects? It just got easier with Twitter's improved "Who To Follow" recommendations and advanced search.

Twitter has changed its search algorithms to help users find new people to follow based on the subjects that interest them.

Previously when users typed in a search query, they were presented with just a small selection of "People" results, all of which contained the search term (or some derivative of it) in the account name.

Now, when Twitterers search for a certain topic and click on the "People" section of the search results page, Twitter will return a list of the top microbloggers in that field.

"This new approach helps you find the Twitter users that will best help you follow your interests. For example, if you're interested in hip hop, chances are that you'd like to follow hip hop artists. Searching for 'hip hop' now surfaces accounts like @common and @questlove," said Twitter in an April 4 blog post.

Twitter has also added an advanced search page that enables users to search for exact phrases, posts with multiple hashtags, tweets from a particular location, and tweets sent from one person to another.

To find new people to follow, click on the new "Who To Follow" tab at the top right hand side of your Twitter page or search by subject using the search bar at the top of your Twitter page.
