The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus: Everything you need to know

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Samsung has announced that the highly impressive new Galaxy S8 will be released on 28 April in the UK.

The 5.8-inch handset will set customers back £689, with the larger 6.2-inch S8+ costing £779.

Though both smartphones come in black, grey and silver colour schemes, UK customers will only be able to purchase the black and grey models.

Samsung has, however, revealed that there is a way for people to get their hands on the S8 and S8+ a little early.

Customers who pre-order either handset between now and 19 April will start receiving them from 20 April - more than a week before the official release date.

That said, it’s highly unlikely that all pre-order customers will get the S8 on 20 April, due to demand.

Our first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy S8 are extremely positive, with the handset making its rivals look dated.

It offers a great blend of beauty and practicality, and new features Bixby and DeX look both slick and useful.
