Cloe Feldman tweeted the question alongside an audio recording and a poll - “What do you hear?! ‘Yanny’ or ‘Laurel.’”
Upon listening, people on social media have come to different conclusions, with some adamant that they hear “Yanny” while others are positive the robot is saying “Laurel” on repeat.
And the debate has continued to grow since it was first uploaded to Reddit a few days ago.
Feldman, who tweeted that she hears “Yanny,” is in the minority group, as the majority of respondents on social media have said they hear “Laurel.”
However, it reportedly all depends on a number of factors including age, sound setting, and whether you are listening with headphones or not.
One person on Reddit also pointed out that adjusting your volume may potentially change what you hear.
The Independent New York City office carried out our own poll and the majority of the office - eight to two - responded that the robot is clearly enunciating “Yanny.”
The Yanny versus Laurel debate is reminiscent of the infamous “What colour is this dress?” - as it doesn’t appear there is any clear answer.
