From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The redesigned reader features what Amazon claims is its best ever screen and has been launched as people head off on holiday over the summer.
The new Oasis has a big 7-inch display, which uses an updated version of the e-ink technology that has always been in the screens of Amazon's e-readers. It also keeps the Oasis's unusual design, which includes a slab coming out of the side of the screen.
But it also includes an "adjustable warm light" that will change according to the conditions outside.
The feature allows the colour tone of the scren to change from white to amber as the light fades and becomes more orange. That can be done manually or timed to happen automatically as the sun rises and sets.
Similar features have come to phones as users have become more concerned about the effects that bright white screens can have in dark rooms, such as dazzling the eyes and even interfering with sleep.
The new Kindle is available to pre-order now and will start shipping on 24 July. It costs £229.99 for the 8 GB version and £259.99 for the 32 GB versio, and the 32 GB with free cellular connectivity is £319.99.
“The all-new Kindle Oasis includes everything customers loved from the previous generation, including the large 7-inch display, waterproofing (IPX8), and Audible—and now we’re making it even better. We’re adding an adjustable warm light so customers can read with a warmer tone that’s customisable to their preference to easily transition from daytime to nighttime reading,” said Eric Saarnio, head of Amazon Devices EU.
“Kindle is designed to create a sanctuary reading experience, and the all-new Kindle Oasis exemplifies this—whether you’re reading poolside on holiday or in the comfort of your bed."
