Apple's March launch event is coming closer, and it looks like they'll use the keynote to introduce the iPhone SE - a slightly smaller, cheaper phone which keeps some of the main features from the iPhone 6.

As usual, Apple hasn't given anything away, which means most of what we know about the SE is based on leaks and rumours.

However, some of these rumours are more credible than others, and we've built up a fairly good idea of what we can expect from the new phone.

Size

Apple went big with their last two phones, the iPhone 6 and 6S, but it looks like they'll be shrinking things a little with the SE.

Rumours suggest that the SE will have a 4-inch screen, the same size as the popular iPhone 5S.

Performance

Although it's much smaller than the 4.7-inch 6S, the SE could pack as much of a punch - it apparently has a powerful new processor, which would let Apple cram the performance of the 6S into a much smaller package.

It's also suspected to have all the latest features, like Apple Pay, live photos and always-on Siri.

Colours

Most rumours have said that the SE will come in the same choice of colours as the 6S - silver, space grey, gold and rose gold.

The 5S only comes in silver and space grey, so the SE should appeal to those who want a smaller phone with some more eye-catching colours.

Price

The price is unknown, but it's likely that the SE will be on the slightly cheaper end of the spectrum, compared to flagship phones like the 6S.

A new 16GB 5S will cost you £379 from Apple's website, so expect the SE to be somewhere in that ballpark.

Release date

Apple's new phones tend to go on sale a couple of weeks after they get unveiled, with pre-orders typically opening a few days after. However, since the SE isn't a big new flagship phone, the launch may come shortly after the unveiling.
