From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Bolton Wanderers' Senegal international midfielder Khalilou Fadiga was released from hospital yesterday after overnight tests on his heart.
Fadiga collapsed during the warm-up for Bolton's home League Cup tie against Tottenham on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old, who underwent heart surgery in May to correct an abnormal heartbeat, appeared to have fainted.
"He has been discharged from hospital and returned home after having tests," a club spokesman said. "The test results came back clear and the doctors were not sure why he fainted."
Fadiga joined Bolton in September after an 18-month absence from the game due to his heart problem. He had been at Internazionale for a year after leaving French club Auxerre but did not play for the Italians and had his contract terminated on medical grounds.
His only appearance for Bolton has been as a 77th- minute substitute in a Premiership game against Crystal Palace early this month.
The news came on the same day that a Brazilian defender, Serginho, died after suffering a heart attack and collapsing on the pitch during the Brazilian championship match between Sao Caetano and Sao Paulo.
The 30-year-old collapsed in his own penalty area early in the second half, when the ball was at the other end of the pitch. He died 40 minutes after arriving at hospital. The match was abandoned as players and officials from both teams joined arms, formed a circle and prayed.
In January this year Benfica's Miklos Feher died in hospital after blacking out after being shown a yellow card in injury time for excessive celebrating of Benfica's late winner.
In June 2003 the Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foé collapsed with a suspected heart attack after 72 minutes of the Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia in Lyon. He was pronounced dead 45 minutes later.
