Briton held on child sex charges

Wednesday 31 August 2011 13:41 BST

A 60-year-old British man has been arrested in Spain on 18 charges of sexual abuse of children in England between 1996 and 1999.

A police statement released today said the man, identified only by his initials L.K., was arrested in the north-eastern town of Torres de Segre.

Police said the offences were allegedly committed against five children aged between 13 and 15 who worked in a newspaper shop run by the man in Bath.

The statement said the man was charged with seven offences in 1999 but released on bail. He failed to turn up in court in February 2000, following which police issued an arrest warrant.

It said British police reopened the case in 2011, adding 11 new charges.
