From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Donald Trump has dealt with his latest heckler in typical Trump fashion by calling for him to be sent out into the chilly climes - without a coat.

After a man interrupted the Republican frontrunner's rally in Vermont last night, he immediately ordered guards to confiscate his coat.

“Get him out of here. Don't give him his coat! Keep his coat! Confiscate his coat! You know it's about 10 degrees below zero outside,” roared Trump from the stage. “Tell him we'll send it to him in a couple of weeks.”

In a failed attempt to stop disruptions such as these, Trump actually tried to prohibit anyone who did not pledge their support from attending his event.

Police ended up shutting down two blocks of the city’s main corridor in preparation for thousands of political activists.

This isn’t the first time Trump has had a run-in with demonstrators. Back in November, he made headlines for calling a protester fat.

While speaking to supporters in Massachusetts, the demonstrator stood up and interrupted his campaign rally.

To this, the billionaire responded by saying: “It’s amazing. I mentioned food stamps, and that guy who’s seriously overweight went crazy. That’s an amazing sight.”

Security quickly removed the protester from the event.
