From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

An open beta for id Software's highly-anticipated Doom remake is launching next week.

Starting from Friday 15 April, gamers on all platforms (Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC) will be able to get a taste of the game's 'Team Deathmatch' and 'Warpath' multiplayer modes.

As publishers Bethesda put it, "simply download the beta and let the viscera fly" - there's no need to mess around with getting beta codes or invitations.

The beta will be available throughout the weekend, closing at the end of Sunday 17 April.

In their announcement of the open beta, Bethesda also spoke about a few pieces of post-launch content.

SnapMap, the game's map creator, will be served with regular content updates to bring new objects, props and tools. There will also be three premium multiplayer DLC packs, the first of which will become available in summer.

The DLC will offer the usual range of new weapons, equipment and maps, and each pack will cost £11.99 in the UK.

Expect the upcoming beta to get pretty crowded - this is the first major instalment in the legendary franchise since Doom 3 in 2004, and it's been in development for years.

If you start to miss all the demon-killing after the beta closes, you won't have to wait long - the full game launches on all platforms on Friday 13 May.
